“One who can see inaction in the midst of action, and action in the midst of inaction, is wise and can act in the spirit of yoga.” -Bhagavad Gita 4.18
Featuring a collaboration between Maria Inês and Mason Gates, this event will include Maria’s live, energetic music mirroring the soundscape of life in a city teeming with growth and cacophony. Mason will introduce a glacial, steady yin practice in order to mimic the discord between the loud rush and the meditative longing for equanimity.
Come experience calm during the alarms and horns of a traffic jam, towered over by cranes and screaming towers, clanged by seagulls and buildings. Let their buzz saw and strain be a path through the city din into stillness.
This practice seeks to reconcile the seemingly disparate: rest with movement; whisper with yell, wander with sprint, tamas with rajas—the yin of the mind with the yang of the metropolis, all while the pulse of Maria’s guitar, harmonica, voice, Tibetan bowl, and meditative sounds vibrate from within.
Also, we’ll stretch.

About Our Musician, Maria Inês:
Hello, my name is Maria, and I have been passionate about music for as long as I can remember. From my childhood days of learning the piano to my teenage years when I decided to venture into learning guitar on my own, and dedicating myself to writing and creating my own songs, music has always been a space of discovery and comfort simultaneously. Recently, I started to take some steps in producing music on my own, and that pushed me into further states of creation.
Over the years, I have discovered the power of music as sheer experimentation, and in that journey, the field of meditative music has become a major playground for creative exploration, which I find enables one to both drift and center on the here and now.
Music is an essential part of my life that I increasingly love to share with others, and I can't wait to see you at this upcoming event and share this experience with you!
About Our Yoga Teacher, Mason Gates:
Mason is a poet and artist from Arizona. His passions are writing, reading, yoga, and the endless pursuit of getting his act together. As a student/teacher of many disciplines, he hopes to reinvigorate the sense of wonder and awe that seems to lose relevance as we age, and he is honored to have the opportunity to be part of a community in which this is nurtured.
He became a yoga teacher so he could continue on the path of leading creative, dynamic, and invigorating classes for fun-minded people. He views yin yoga as an opportunity to find peace amidst the chaos of city living.
